Tony Nguyen is a BFA Student of the Metal-Sculpture program at CSULB. He’s already in his fifth year and will soon be graduating. He decided to study as a major in ‚metal‘ after he began as studying illustration and noticed he’d rather do more crafty work. Tony is also interested in all kinds of ’nerdy‘ things as he describes it himself – which also has a great influence in his work. Many pieces for example refere to fantasy and samurai-armoury.
The idea behind the exhibition ‚Neoteny‘ was to show things from his childhood that formed an influenced him in his thinking and philosophies. All the pieces refere to stories or people he has or had a strong relation to.
What I really like about Tonys work, is that it looks very well propotioned and elegant – espacially compared to other common ‚fantasy‘ designs that often look overloaded and bulky.
